Virtual Chinese Typing Contest 中文打字比賽 2025-2026

PCLS is excited to offer our virtual Typing contest this year. Typing Chinese characters is a fun way to learn the language. Typing in Chinese pinyin can generate many characters which may use the same pinyin but have different tones and meanings. Through this process, students learn the differences in characters and meanings.

Participant Eligibility
Given the limited number of characters students learn prior to the 4th grade, this contest is more suitable for the students in the 4th grade or above. However, all students are welcome to participate.
Two groups:
Group 1: Traditional 6th grade and under, and CSL 4 & under
Group 2: Traditional 7th grade and above, and CSL 5
* Depending on the final number of participants, PCLS should reserve the right to regroup participants.

  1. Contest Rules:
  2. Participants will receive the 5-minute typing test question via email at 12 pm January 24, 2026.
  3. Participants will have 24 hours to complete the contest. During the 24-hour period from 12 pm January 24, 2026 to 12 pm January 25, 2026, participants can type as many times as they desire to achieve their best score.
  4. The input methods can be Zhuyin (注音) or Hanyu Pinyin (漢語拼音). No handwriting or voice input.
  5. The test can only be completed using computers. No smartphone or tablet.
  6. Please take a screenshot of the best score, and send it to academic@pcls.org no later than 12:15 pm January 25, 2026.
  7. Screenshot example is shown below. Please include your score, date and time in the screenshot.
  8. Please include your name and grade in the email subject line. Example: 2026 PCLS typing contest - Cindy Chen, T4

Important Dates
Registration: Now to January 23, 2026
Practice period: Now to 11:59 am January 24, 2026
24-hour Chinese Typing Contest Period: Starts at 12 pm January 24, 2026 and ends at 12 pm January 25, 2026.
Best score submission deadline: No later than 12:15 pm January 25, 2026. If you submit after 12:15 pm January 25, 2026, your score will not be accepted.
Contest Date: 01/25/2026
Contest Registration Due Date: 01/23/2026
